ABOUT 200 local and foreign journalists are expected to cover the royal wedding between His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Dayangku Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah Pengiran Hj Bolkiah in April.
The royal wedding’s Media Secretariat Committee on Publication and Information announced this, as preparations are under way for the wedding of His Majesty Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah’s third son, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik.
The media secretariat further said media applications are still open for the wedding.
Four arches bearing photos of the royal couple and well wishes for the upcoming wedding had been set up by the Department of Building Services, Public Works Department to commemorate the celebration.
The arches are located at Masjid Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Highway overpass near the government complex on Old Airport Road, Jalan Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien near the Bandar Seri Begawan Post Office and at the overhead bridge of Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary School on Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha.
The royal wedding will take place over 11 days.
It will start with the Majlis Istiadat Bersuruh Diraja (royal marriage proposal ceremony).
This will be followed by the Majlis Istiadat Membuka Gendang Jaga-Jaga on April 6.
This ceremony denotes the beginning of the Musim Istiadat Diraja, or period of the royal ceremonial customs until the closing of the Gendang Jaga-Jaga ceremony on April 15.
Meanwhile, the Majlis Istiadat Menghantar Tanda Diraja and Menerima Pertunangan Diraja (royal engagement) will take place on April 7.
HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik will read his solemnisation vows in accordance with Islamic law for his marriage to his future bride on April 9 at Masjid Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
The highlight of the event will be the Majlis Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja, when the royal couple will be seated on a special dais in front of their families and invited guests at the Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana of Istana Nurul Iman on Sunday, April 12.
State broadcaster Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) is also expected to telecast the royal wedding events live.
