Performances light up Bandar

THE crowd that flocked to the stage set up at the car park in front of the Royal Regalia laughed uproariously as they watched a performance of Bangau Oh Bangau by the Putra Seni group yesterday night.

At the same time, at the Royal Wharf, more than 60 members of Pusat Bahagia, who consisted of trainees and students, dazzled the crowd with their song and dance performances.

The shows were in conjunction with the Royal nuptials, where different cultural and religious performances are being held every night at these two locations throughout the week.

The performances at the Royal Regalia car park was entitled ‘Malam Kesenian Belia’ and was performed by more than 70 youth that are under the Department of Youth and Sports such as members of the Putra Seni Group, the Tutong Youth Centre Club, ex-members of the 2013 and 2014 Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) and former National Service (PKBN) trainees.

Some of the performances of the night at the car park included traditional dances Qayum O Qayum andZapin Tari Melayu by the SSEAYP 2013 and 2014 alumni, and a silat demonstration by former PKBN trainees.

At the Royal Wharf, despite being visually impaired, intellectually challenged, physically disabled or hearing impaired, the performers danced admirably and sang wonderfully, showcasing their talents for all to see.

Performances such as Tarian Jipin Brunei, tausyeh entitled Selamat Pengantin Baru, and the Aduk-Aduk dance and songs from the students and trainees and even the centre’s The Uniq Band, all brought smiles to the audience.

“After weeks of training, performing in front of an audience and entertaining them is a form of acknowledgement for these individuals and helps boosts their confidence and self-esteem,” said the principal of the centre, Md Nasrullah El-Hakiem Hj Awang Mohammed.

Attending the performances at the car park as the guest of honour was the Acting Deputy Director Youth and Sports, Azizul Azri Hj Majit while the Acting Deputy Director of Community Development Department (JAPEM) Rostinah Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Hj Md Tahir attended the performances at the Royal Wharf.
