IT WAS an upbeat evening at the car park in front of the Royal Regalia building in the capital yesterday as three cultures showcased their heritage through performances as part of a week-long celebration to commemorate the royal wedding between His Royal Highness Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and Dk Raabi'atul 'Adawiyyah Pg Hj Bolkiah.
The event, titled 'Malam Warisan Budaya' (Culture Heritage Night), was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) with the cooperation of the Tiong Hua community and Persatuan Masyarakat India (India Community Association), who impressed the audience with their renditions of '60s' songs at a competition.
Seven solo participants and seven duet performances competed for a chance to be the best. Aside from the competition, the audience were enthralled by cultural dances from the Malay, Indian and Chinese community.
The winners of the night received cash prizes. Four consolation winners also received prizes sponsored by the Tiong Hua community and India Community Association.
The event was also made merry with the serving of complimentary refreshments such as Pepsi and ice cream to the audience.
Among those in attendance was the the guest of honour, the Acting Director of Culture and Arts Division under MCYS, Pg Hj Mohammad Azlan Pg Hj Tengah Omar along with the officers from the Culture and Arts Division.
